Dali and his anteater emerging from a Paris subway in 1969. Doesn’t get much more surreal than that. He was unmistakably a genius but conspicuously sought celebrity. Though I appreciate Max Ernst and Picasso more deeply, I’ve always enjoyed Dali’s work and really loved the psychedelic biopic Salvador Dali: A Soft Self Portrait which came out in 1970 and was narrated by Orson Welles. Netflix doesn’t carry it because the film has yet to be released on dvd if it ever will. You can see it on YouTube.
